What is the Bruin Course Materials program and how does it work?

Bellevue University is piloting Bruin Course Materials this summer – June through July 2023. The University plans to roll out the Bruin Course Materials program to all learners starting in August 2023 (fall term).
Will I save money using Bruin Course Materials?
Yes! Students will be able to get all of their required course materials for one low fee during the pilot. When the full program is rolled out, undergraduate students will pay a flat fee of $150 per term for all of their books and materials. Graduate students will pay a flat fee of $168 per term. The cost of materials will be reflected in your student account along with tuition and fees.
What if I already purchased my books for class?
If you already purchased your books for class, you have two options. One, you can keep the books you purchased and opt out of the Bruin Course Materials pilot. Or two, you can return your books for a refund and use the Bruin Course Materials inside Blackboard.
What do I need to do to get Bruin Course Materials?
You don’t need to take any action. Your required books and course materials will be inside your course on Blackboard and the cost of materials will be reflected in your student account along with tuition and fees. Look for an announcement in the course about how to access your digital bookshelf.
How do I get my books/course materials?
Digital materials, including ebooks will be delivered to you inside the Blackboard learning management system before the first day of class. Physical materials such as art supplies and lab kits will be gathered at the campus bookstore. You can pick up the materials there or they can be shipped to you.
If my professor has custom course materials, will those be included in the program?
Materials that your professor identifies as “required” are included in Bruin Course Materials. If there are materials that are identified as “recommended,” but not required, those will be available at the campus bookstore.
Is everything included in Bruin Course Materials?
There may occasionally be materials that are not available through the Bruin Course Materials program. In those situations, your professor will guide you on how to obtain or access those materials.
What if I add or drop a course?
If you drop or add a course, your Bruin Course Materials access to the digital materials will be automatically updated to ensure you have access to the materials you need.
What if I want to keep my books after a class ends?
After your course ends, your Bruin Course Materials access to the digital materials for that course will be removed. However, you can choose to keep the book by purchasing the book at a discounted rate at the campus store.
What if I don’t want Bruin Course Materials?
You can opt out of the Bruin Bruin Course Materials program by talking to your assigned Student Coach. If you opt out of the program, you will need to purchase required books/materials on your own and that may cost more. After opting out, the cost of course materials will be removed from your student account.
