Bellevue University Launches 100% Online Master of Science Program in Child, Youth & Family Studies

New Degree Program Prepares Graduates to Tackle Complex Social Issues

Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leaders in preparing students for lifelong success with career-relevant knowledge and skills, recently launched a new 100% online Master of Science in Child, Youth and Family Studies degree program that addresses the growing societal need for professionals prepared and educated to address social and psychological issues affecting kids and their families.

“Today, there is growing recognition that children and families across the United States need the support, guidance and care of professionals who can deal appropriately with complex issues such as poverty, childhood hunger and child abuse,” said Bellevue University President Dr. Mary Hawkins.

“While there are many organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children,” she said, “these organizations need leaders who are fully prepared and qualified to diagnose complex multi-dimensional issues, supervise cases, and help communities solve their most pressing social service challenges.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the demand for child and family social workers will increase by 14.2% now through 2026.

According to Program Director David Hoppe, the new Master of Science in Child, Youth and Family Studies is one of the few programs of its kind in the country. “This graduate program is tailored to those people who are dedicated to improving the lives of children and families,” he said. There is not a specific undergraduate major requirement to begin this graduate program.

Hoppe also noted that the program is ideal for working adults because it is 100% online and does not require an internship. “Students in this program will interact and gain valuable experience with a social service agency or company,” he explained, “but they will be able to do it while still working full-time or raising a family.”
