Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leaders in preparing students for lifelong success with career-relevant knowledge and skills, has been ranked as the state of Nebraska’s top  institution in awarding college degrees to Hispanics in an analysis recently published by Excelencia in Education.

The April 2024 report uses publicly available data to provide a detailed profile on Latino students and the institutions where they choose to enroll.

The analysis also showed that Bellevue University ranked third in the state of Nebraka’s top institutions for enrolling Hispanic undergraduate students, with 15% Hispanic undergraduate enrollment.

“The Excelencia in Education analysis serves as an important reminder that obstacles still exist and it’s up to higher education institutions to tackle them,” said Dr. Mary Hawkins, President of Bellevue University. “We have to acknowledge the unique needs of Hispanic learners while recognizing their impact on the workforce of tomorrow.”

Bellevue University was the state’s only private, not-for-profit institution included in the analysis.

According to the Excelencia in Education analysis, degree attainment for Latino students varies across the country. According to the report, Nebraska’s four-year graduation rate for Latino students was 15% lower than the four-year graduation rate for White students.

The Excelencia in Education analysis used U.S. Department of Education data, including National Center for Education Statistics and Integrated Postsecondary Data System 2021 Fall Enrollment, Graduation Rates Survey and Institutional Characteristics Survey.
