Bellevue University Launches Backpack Drive to Support Homeless Military Veterans
Community invited to donate and participate in packing event for local veterans in need
Bellevue University is asking the community to help fill backpacks with essential items for homeless military veterans at Siena Francis House and New Visions Homeless Services. Now through Nov. 1, you can contribute by making a cash donation or donating items.
Donations of items can be dropped off at the Bellevue University Military Veteran Services Center (MVSC) in the John B. Muller Administrative Services Building, located at 812 Bruin Blvd., Bellevue, Nebraska. The MVSC will accept in-person donations Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cash donations can also be made at the MVSC front desk.
For those unable to drop off items in person, donations can either be mailed to:

Or, online donations can also be made here.
On Nov. 1, Bellevue University will host a “Packing Party” to assemble the donated items into backpacks. Community volunteers are invited to participate in the event, which will take place at 10 a.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the Garden Level of the John B. Muller Administrative Services Building. To volunteer, please register here.
“The support from the community can make a difference,” said Ashlea Rodriguez, Manager of the Military Veteran Services Center. “Each backpack filled with items not only provides immediate relief but also shows our veterans that they are not forgotten.”
“We are incredibly grateful to Bellevue University and the community for their ongoing commitment to support our veterans on their path to stable housing. This annual backpack drive is so much more than just providing essential items—it’s a heartfelt way for the community to honor and show appreciation for the service and sacrifices our veterans have made,” said Chris Bauer, Chief Advancement Officer at Siena Francis House. “Bellevue University’s generosity and partnership help us ensure that veterans experiencing homelessness feel seen, supported, and valued each year on Veterans Day.”
The packed backpacks will be formally presented to the staff and residents of Siena Francis House and New Visions in a private ceremony dedicated to honoring our veterans.
