First Games in the Field House
Bellevue University will host the first basketball games in its brand-new athletic field house. The debut will take place during the annual Purple Out game on Friday, followed by Senior Night on Saturday.
The action begins on Friday with the women’s basketball team playing at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s team at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the women’s game starts at 3 p.m. and the men’s game follows at 5 p.m.
Facility Details
The new field house, located west of Bellevue University’s main campus at 2102 Harvell Circle, is a facility for the University’s athletic programs. The 72,000-plus square foot facility includes competition and practice courts for basketball and volleyball, athletic training facilities, locker rooms, a weight room, a press room, and office space for coaches and staff.
“It’s exciting to see this facility coming so close to completion and be able to give it a real test with the games this weekend,” said Bellevue University President Dr. Mary Hawkins. “This is a milestone for our athletic programs and our university as a whole. I’m especially thrilled that our seniors have the opportunity to compete in this new fieldhouse before they graduate.”
Impact on Athletics and Campus
Athletic Director Ed Lehotak emphasized its impact on student-athletes and the university community. “We expect this to have an impact on the experience for our student-athletes, as well as our staff, faculty, fans, and officials,” Lehotak said. “Athletes on all of our sports teams and our coaches will benefit.”
The Bellevue University Bruins compete in a variety of men's and women's sports, along with Esports, a co-ed competition.
Fans, students, and community members are encouraged to support the Bruins as they play in the new facility with two nights of basketball action. Parking will be available in the new lot of the field house, and admission is free.
