Bellevue University’s Dr. Dishant Pandya, an Associate Professor in the College of Business, recently co-authored and published a study on the long-run financial performance of publicly traded companies in the United States in the Journal of Accounting and Financial Management.

The study, entitled “Advising versus monitoring: a study of agency theory and the effect of board composition on the long-run financial performance of publicly traded companies in the United States,” investigated the impact of the 2003 board-independence mandate on the long-run financial performance of U.S. publicly traded companies.

Dr. Pandya explained that mandating companies to have independent boards appears to have led to an increase in firm performance in the long-term.

“I wanted to observe the effect of government intervention in the private market in a capitalist society,” said Dr. Pandya, who holds a Doctorate of Business Administration in Finance, a Master of Arts in Economics and a Master of Business Administration.
