Bellevue University’s Gina Ponce has been appointed to serve on Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert’s Community Advisory Board.

Ponce, who currently serves as the Director of Latino Community Outreach at Bellevue University, will serve on the board as a volunteer.

“I’m grateful to Mayor Stothert for selecting me to serve on the Community Advisory Board,” Ponce said. “I’m excited to work alongside the other board members to help shine a light on important diversity issues in our local government.”

The community board will have 15 members — five from current advisory boards and 10 selected from applications.

“With your help, we have an excellent opportunity to work together to develop a strategic plan to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in city government,” Stothert said in the official letter of appointment.

Ponce has been in the Omaha Metro for more than 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Science in Management and Human Resources and a Master of Arts in Communication.

She is the President of Women on a Mission for Change, a nonprofit serving women and girls in the area of leadership. She currently serves on the South Omaha Community Care Council and the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce boards. She’s been the recipient of several awards, including: Ethical Leadership Award, Women of Color Leadership Award, Latina of the Year and more.
