Bellevue University’s Gina Ponce Named Recipient of 2021 Metro Young Latino Professionals Association’s Legacy Award

Bellevue University’s Gina Ponce has been named a 2021 recipient of the Metro Young Latino Professionals Association’s (MYLPA) Legacy Award. 

Ponce, who currently serves as the Director of Latino Community Outreach at Bellevue University, will accept the award during the Somos el Futuro Luncheon on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Livestock Exchange Building, 4920 S 30th St., in Omaha, Neb. 

MYLPA is the premier Latino professional association in the metro area dedicated to the development and empowerment of the Latino community.

“I’m grateful to the Metro Young Latino Professionals Association for selecting me to receive the Legacy Award,” Ponce said. “Through community partnerships and education, we continue to make important strides in the Latino community.”

Ponce has been in the Omaha metro since 1992 and has focused on causes and organizations related to women, youth and the Latino community. She is a Bellevue University alumnus who earned both a Bachelor of Science in Management and Human Resources and a Master of Arts in Communication from the University.

She is the president and founder of Women on a Mission for Change, a nonprofit serving women and girls in the area of leadership, and recently she spearheaded the founding of the new El Camino Latino Center located on the Bellevue University campus. She currently serves on the City of Omaha Diversity and Inclusion Community Advisory board, South Omaha Community Care Council and the Kids Can Community Center board. Ponce has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Ethical Leadership Award, the Women of Color Leadership Award and as the Latina of the Year.
