BU College of Business, VITA and AARP Team Up on Free Tax Help
BELLEVUE, Nebraska – The last day to submit 2019 tax returns, April 15, will be here before you know it, which is why Bellevue University has teamed up again with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Tax Care for the Elderly to offer free basic tax filing assistance.
The tax services are available to all Nebraska residents of all ages, and will be available on a first-come, first served basis. The assistance will be available on Saturdays, starting Feb. 1, through Saturday, April 4, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The volunteers will meet with clients at the Freeman Lozier Library on the Bellevue University campus. Volunteers cannot prepare complicated tax returns. The library is located at 1028 Bruin Blvd. in Bellevue, Nebraska. Free parking is available in campus lots near the library.
According to Heidi Deden, Associate Professor in the College of Business, prospective clients should check out the Internal Revenue Service "What to Bring” page prior to meeting with a VITA volunteer. “We encourage people to bring all of their documents and the information that our volunteers will need to help them,” she said.
