BU Recognized as Military Friendly for 11th Straight Year

Award Measures Commitment, Effort & Success in Creating Better Outcomes for Veterans

Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leaders in preparing students for lifelong success with career-relevant knowledge and skills, has been designated a Gold Standard Military Friendly® school for the 11th year in a row by VIQTORY Media.

The Military Friendly® survey is the longest-running, most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving our nation’s military and military students. The designation covers institutions offering certificate programs to doctoral degrees and is given to schools that are committed to being “Better for Veterans.”

According to university President Dr. Mary Hawkins, Bellevue University is proud to receive the recognition and help set a standard for other schools to follow. “Since it was founded by World War II veteran Bill Brooks in 1966,” she said, “Bellevue University has provided high quality educational services, as well as the flexibility that our men and women in uniform need to be successful.”

Dr. Hawkins cited Bellevue University’s designation as an official Purple Heart campus and the University’s freestanding Military Veteran Services Center as examples of the University’s commitment to those who are serving – or who have served – in the military. “The MVSC is a resource for students all over the world, as well as all veterans and their families in the community,” she said.

“I was looking for a school that would take my professional experience, my existing degrees, and allow me to finish my bachelor’s. I was able to use my G.I. Bill toward a degree that I felt would complement my career. Bellevue University checked all of those boxes."
U.S. Army veteran Jason Johnson

Bellevue University graduate and U.S. Army veteran Jason Johnson earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Security Management from Bellevue University.

“I was looking for a school that would take my professional experience, my existing degrees, and allow me to finish my bachelor’s. I was able to use my G.I. Bill toward a degree that I felt would complement my career. Bellevue University checked all of those boxes,” Johnson said.

For the 2020-2021 year, 625 institutions across the country earned the Military Friendly® school designation. Schools are evaluated using both public data sources and responses to a proprietary survey completed by the school. Final ratings are determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the external assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds in areas such as student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates for all students, and specifically for veteran students and spouses.
