Bellevue Business Students Qualify for FBLA-Collegiate National Competition
Bellevue University College of Business students placed in multiple categories at the Nebraska FBLA-Collegiate Conference held March 28–29 in Kearney, Nebraska. The team also qualified for the FBLA Collegiate National Leadership Conference and earned recognition at a separate pitch competition.

Conference Overview and Top Finishers
Bellevue University College of Business students won two categories and had two third-place finishes in two different categories at the Nebraska Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)-Collegiate Conference held March 28-29 in Kearney, Nebraska.
Bellevue’s top finishers included:
- Carlos Ortega Arguelles and Maria Pinedo Velarde, who won first place in the Finance Case Study category.
- Carlos Ortega Arguelles and Maria Pinedo Velarde also won third place in the Management Case Study category.
- Bethany Duke, who won first place in the Management Case Study category.
- Bethany Duke also won third place in the Organizational Behavior and Leadership category.
National Qualification and Recognition
With their top-five finishes, all the Bellevue students qualified for the FBLA Collegiate National Leadership Conference, which will be held May 31-June 2 in Dallas, Texas.
Ortega Arguelles was also recognized with the FBLA Who’s Who Award for outstanding contributions to the organization at the local, state and national levels.
According to Dr. Laurel Mitchell, Bellevue University team advisor, “Carlos was our first member when we re-initiated our FBLA-Collegiate team last year, and he single-handedly recruited other team members. He is a true leader and represents FBLA-Collegiate core values.”
Pitch Competition and Student Development
Bellevue student Andres Valencia recently placed second at the Morningside University Personal Pitch Competition, representing Bellevue’s FBLA-Collegiate team.
“Participation in these business competitions is a valuable experience for Bellevue University students,” said Dr. Mitchell. “Students sharpen their leadership, communication and teamwork skills as they compete against their peers.”
