Live Online Pilot FAQs
Bellevue University is piloting Live Online, a new learning format that lets you enjoy live interaction from anywhere. The following questions and answers may be helpful for students who want to know more about Live Online and how it works.
What is Live Online and how does it work?
Live Online is one of Bellevue University’s newest learning formats and offers learners the opportunity to enjoy live classroom interaction from virtually anywhere.
Learners in Live Online classes need to login and attend class at scheduled times each week via their computer and be on camera during the entire class session.
What technology do I need to participate in the Live Online pilot?
To fully participate in the Live Online pilot, you will need:
- A computer/mobile device with a webcam and microphone
- Wi-Fi access
- Ability to attend weekly live class sessions at set times via your computer or tablet
- A quiet space where you can talk and listen
What if I do not have access to a camera or microphone or Wi-Fi during class time?
If you do not have access to the required technology to participate in Live Online learning, you should consider another online learning format.
Do I have to be on camera for the entire class session?
Yes, you should plan to be on camera and able to participate during the entire class session. For example, if class meets two times a week, you should plan to be fully online, on camera, for both sessions. If the class is one hour, you should plan to be fully online, on camera, for the entire hour.
Students in Live Online learning courses will enjoy the latest in online course design, which may include things like polls, class time for networking with classmates, group work, guest speakers, lab sessions, studying, even online office hours with your instructor!
Do all Bellevue University students have access to Live Online?
Bellevue University is piloting the Live Online learning format in select courses starting this fall. The University plans to roll out Live Online in additional select courses after the pilot is completed.
What will the Live Online learning experience be like?
Live Online learning offers the flexibility you need and lets you learn in a real-time, online setting with other classmates and an instructor. You’ll attend weekly class sessions, have weekly assignments due and participate in live classroom discussions led by an instructor. You’ll also participate via videoconferencing, on camera, in a variety of engaging activities designed to make the virtual environment interactive, purposeful and fun.
How is Live Online different from Anytime Online learning?
Live Online learning brings together online flexibility and real-time instruction and interaction in a live virtual classroom. Anytime Online learning is a more widely known type of online learning that provides more flexibility; students do not meet in weekly class sessions.
What do I need to do to participate in Live Online?
During our pilot, we’ll invite students who are enrolling in specific courses. As Bellevue University rolls out Live Online more broadly, you’ll need to talk to your Student Coach about your preferred way to learn.
What if I don’t want to participate in Live Online?
If you’re contacted about the pilot, you can choose whether to participate. Just let your Admissions Counselor or Student Coach know your preference.
What if my schedule doesn’t allow me to take a Live Online course?
Live Online class participants do have to be able to attend weekly class sessions at set times and participate live, virtually, on camera, from their tablet or their computer. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to take a Live Online class, you can enroll in a course offered in another learning format.
