Nebraska’s ‘50 Over 50’ List Includes Bellevue’s Global Partnership Director
Julie Verebely, Director of Global Partnerships at Bellevue University, has been tapped for recognition in The BLOC’s 50 Over 50 Nebraska list for 2024.
The 2024 50 Over 50 awards celebrate and honor Nebraskans aged 50-plus who have and are still accomplishing great things in Nebraska. This year’s class is diverse and includes leaders in education, nonprofits, media, healthcare and other fields.
Verebely has played an instrumental role in shaping Bellevue University’s international partnerships, including the University’s innovative 2+2 program that has brought hundreds of students from Guangzhou College of Commerce and other Chinese schools to Nebraska to start their educational careers. Since 2015, the University has seen about 500 Chinese students graduate and earn degrees.
To enrich the students’ educational experience, Verebely and the Global Partnerships team have collaborated with local organizations to share Chinese culture. They have distributed handmade greeting cards at Boys Town, Union Pacific and at local schools, nursing homes and military retirement homes. The students have also performed cultural dances at events.
Verebely, who has worked at the University since 2009, said “I count myself fortunate to be part of the Bellevue University family. I receive an immense amount of support from all of the departments and that makes it easy to show students that ‘we’re for you.’”
Vice President of Strategic Partnerships Jim Nekuda said, “Julie Verebely is so deserving of this recognition. She understands the needs of international students and works tirelessly to help them accomplish their goals, and to help support Bellevue University’s mission.”
The 2024 50 Over 50 honorees will be recognized at an event on Saturday, Oct. 12 in downtown Omaha.
