Secondary Teacher Education Program Approved by State Board of Education

BELLEVUE, Neb. - Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leaders in preparing students for lifelong success with career-relevant knowledge and skills, recently received formal approval of its Secondary Teacher Education Program endorsement programs from the Nebraska State Board of Education.

The formal approval marks a milestone for the Bellevue University Teacher Education program, which operated under temporary approval during the multi-year state review period. The Bellevue University program is the first new teacher education degree program to be created in Nebraska in nearly 20 years.

“This approval is not a surprise, but it is very meaningful to our students, our faculty and our staff,” said Dr. Susan Alford, Bellevue University Program Director. “It means students and graduates can be confident in their education as they enter the employment market and pursue teaching positions.”

Dr. Rebecca Murdock, Dean of the College of Business, added that: “School districts and hiring administrators will know the Bellevue University Teacher Education program has met all state professional preparation standards and that the program aligns with all state training standards.”

The Bellevue University Secondary Teacher Education program prepares students to become certified as teachers for grade levels 6-12. Students must have an endorsement in at least one academic subject or field area. Students may also complete a supplemental endorsement to prepare them for roles that involve coaching or information technology.
