Talent Management Colloquium, Cybersecurity Webinar Events Next Week
Bellevue University alumni are cordially invited to attend many University-sponsored events, including two coming up next week. Both programs are good for those who need continuing education credit--Continuing Education Units or Continuing Professional Education units—in your field or work place.
Winter Colloquium Tuesday
On Tuesday, January 24, the University’s Human Capital Lab (HCL) will host its Winter Colloquium from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the Georgetowne Club in west Omaha.
The featured presenter will be Jason Lauritsen, founder and principal consultant of Bulletproof Talent, an Omaha-based human resource consulting firm. Lauritsen’s company emphasizes a strategy called “Reality-Based Engagement” to accommodate work force challenges such as age demographics and broad differences in the technology acumen of employees. His topic will be “The Evolution of Talent Management.”
Having attended many of the Colloquiums over the years, I have found them to be interesting and informative. The presenters are top-notch, a variety of people attend, including HR and training professionals, entrepreneurs, business and operational leaders, and others interested in learning ways to develop, motivate, and enable their people to be more productive and fulfilled. The refreshments are good too!
Colloquium attendance and a wide variety of HCL resources are free to members, and membership is free. You just have to sign up. The Colloquium doors open at 2:30 p.m. for those who want to network. The program is 3 to 5 p.m.

"America's economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on cybersecurity." - President Barack Obama, May 2009
On Wednesday, January 25, 1 to 2 p.m. CST, the University’s Center for Cybersecurity Education will present a webinar on how to protect yourself and your company or organization from cybersecurity threats.
The webinar presenter will be Ronald “Ron” Woerner, Assistant Professor and Director of Cybersecurity Studies in the University’s College of Information Technology. He joined the University faculty a year ago to help set up and teach classes in the University’s M.S. in Cybersecurity program. His background includes IT security positions with HDR, Inc., ConAgra Foods, and TD Ameritrade.
In the early days of the PC, information security was easier, Woerner said. Today it’s more complicated. “You can’t just unplug your computer and feel secure anymore.”
The one-hour program will include time for participant questions and answers. For more information and to register online for the free webinar, go to http://www.bellevue.edu/resources/cce/seminars-and-outreach.aspx.
Sorry, no free refreshments are provided for the webinar! You’ll have to bring your own.
