Bellevue University Nursing Program Welcomes Dr. Candida Constantine-Castillo as New Director

Candi 2022

This past November, Dr. Candida (Candi) Constantine-Castillo took over as Program Director for Bellevue University’s RN to BSN nursing program. She previously served as an adjunct professor but now is an assistant professor of nursing, as well.

“Bellevue’s (University) culture and student-centric design was the main attraction for coming aboard with the university,” she explained of what initially attracted her.

Dr. Constantine-Castillo’s position involves overseeing the nursing program, supporting and students, many of whom learn primarily online, and more.

It’s an important role, and fortunately she brings a wealth of experience to the position.

Previously, Dr. Constantine-Castillo served as CEO of the Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas, system chief nursing officer for the South Texas Health System, and hospital administrator for Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital in San Benito, Texas. In addition, she has taught at the University of Texas-Arlington and Cornell University.

Dr. Constantine-Castillo academic credentials are just as impressive. She earned her undergraduate nursing degrees from East Tennessee State University, a Master of Business Administration from Andrew Jackson University, a post-graduate certificate in nursing administration from the University of Texas-Arlington, a Doctor of Health Administration with a specialization in health care leadership from Capella University, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Purdue University.

In Dr. Constantine-Castillo’s capacity as Program Director of Bellevue University’s CCNE-accredited RN to BSN nursing program, she has several aspirations.

“My immediate goals will be to continue the excellent efforts of the leadership team working diligently to ensure students are supported in the program while working full-time positions, as well as balancing personal/family needs,” she said. “Long-term goals include growing the program and assessing for opportunities for improvement.”

Saying she’s program director for Bellevue University’s nursing degree is just one more title Dr. Constantine-Castillo can add to her long list of credentials. In fact, her email signature includes 14 of them – ranging from DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) to MBA Master of Business Administration) to HACP (Healthcare Accreditation Certification Program) and CNML (Certified Nurse Manager and Leader Certification). .

“The credentials demonstrate my dedication to lifelong learning, and I find many students are inspired or curious as to how to obtain particular certifications,” she said. “This is always a welcome conversation.”

Already, Dr. Constantine-Castillo is leading the Bellevue University program forward. She was recently involved as the University’s program underwent a re-accreditation visit from the Comission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

“Validation from an accrediting body highlights the excellence in education provided to our students,” she said.
